WeLoveFine Presents: “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection” Design Contest Winners’ Announcement!!

By Marion Dreo on May 11, 2015

Back in January of this year, WeLoveFine.com in conjunction with 2K and Gearbox, launched a Borderlands Design contest to celebrate the announcement of “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.” Artists were encouraged to create designs based on their favorite characters and elements of Borderlands, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Almost 200 designs were submitted to the contest.

The winners were selected by fans, cosplayers WindOfTheStars and It’s Raining Neon, as well as Hot Topic. There were so many great designs that it was hard for fans and judges to narrow it down to the 7 winners. In fact, if was so hard that the WeLoveFine staff picked some of their favorites as well. We are pleased to announce those winners and staff picks today!

The Grand Prize that includes a trip to visit and tour the Gearbox Software HQ in Dallas, TX was awarded to Timothy Lim with his design titled “Deathtrap Arigato”. About his design, Tim said “It was a last-minute inspiration: I decided to play Borderlands 2 again after some months, having used Zer0 as my original character. Looking over the roster of additional characters, I thought, ‘Oh boy, this should be fun... a school girl with a home-made robot.’ I underestimated Gaige from the beginning and just fell in love with her as a character! As a person who is not good at video games, I thought that she offered just the right amount of challenge, balanced with an awesome skill for when the going gets tough. Plus, she is well written and I found myself chuckling at a lot of her catch phrases and asides. In the end, I just tried to do her character justice, to capture that moment from the eyes of an unlucky bandit who hears ‘DOMO ARIGATO, SUCKER!’ just before Deathtrap appears out of the ether.”

Tim’s design, along with all of the six other fantastic winning designs, are all available for purchase on tee-shirts right now at WeLoveFine.com. Come check out their art and show the artists some love!
